While trying unsuccessfully to tune in after the fact to KROQ radio to hear the 4:20 PM release of Younglbood Hawke's new song 'Pressure' (I still haven't heard it, but those who did loved it!) I saw a scrolling banner ad about a new Vampire Weekend song reworking the neo-classical "Con te PartirĂ²," made famous by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. This obviously meant a great deal to me since I'm soooo cultured, and hold neo-classical tenors close to my heart....
I have never heard of the song before in my life.
Anyway, I checked it out, and what should I find, but one of the coolest Vampire Weekend songs to date! Exchanging the huge orchestra of the original for a reggae beat, Ezra's voice shines like crazy. It's a real testament to Vampire Weekend when I'm completely captivated by a song without a single word in English. These guys are way too cool. The switch up at 2:35 is sweet, and so Vampire. Enjoy!
The link above is from a random SoundCloud user, as the track is currently Private only to the music label of the upcoming 'Sweetheart' album featuring a variety of artists. Here's the link to the private track in case the above SoundCloud is taken down: https://soundcloud.com/fantasylabelgroup/time-to-say-goodbye-con-te/s-EIWx4
Also, this is just fantastic.
