Fun.: Walking the Dog II

This song's a keeper. A gorgeous contrast to the more upbeat original, both versions are glorious and play to different moods. Watch the absolutely bonkers psychedelic original music video, and once your eyes and brain recover, sit back and drift through 'Walking the Dog II'. Enjoy!
Original:
And the tranquil, wonderful version...
Also, if you are so inclined, and need a pick me up, take a listen to 'All Alright' off their new album! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9O1Vh61o-8 The end is beautiful, from 3:00 on.

The Joy Formidable: A Heavy Abacus (Qulinez Remix) (EDM)

If you're walking about the metaphorical grocery store of sounds, and you have an uncanny hankering for some crazy synths, then you are on the right aisle! This song brings my crazy to a whole new level of crazy. I do the little 'point-in-different-directions-in-time-with-the-synths' thing every time I hear it, then it builds, I wiggle my face and raise my arms up high, then it drops and I get all groovy. Exactly how it goes down every time! Qulinez chooses the perfect track to remix, and as you listen to it, the joy is, in fact, rather formidable. Enjoy and blast it this weekend!
If you're dying for a download, scroll down for a ways here: http://www.earmilk.com/2012/04/27/the-club-week-29/ and look for the the song title.

Asaf Avidan & the Mojos: One Day/Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix) (Beautiful Trance)

Ahhh. It feels nice to be writing about real music again. I stumbled upon (no, not on that website, I've actually never used it, I already waste plenty of time on the internet) this track last night at three in the morning and proceeded to listen to Wankelmut's entire discography. In a word--or two--great night.
This song is something else. Don't be intimidated by its length, it's worth every second. Extremely laid back, this song literally lowered my core body temperature it was so chill. I had to bundle up. It got crazy, or rather, ridiculously relaxing and not crazy.
A very simple vocal loop and a great underlying rhythm make up basically the entire song, and it's beautiful in its simplicity. PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS ON GOOD HEADPHONES! The voice does this awesome surround sound shenanigans and jumps around from ear to ear, and is epic with high quality headphones (which I don't pretend to own, I've got cheap over-ear Skullcandy's). Anyway, check this out, remain unperturbed by its nearly eight minute duration, and actually listen all the way through, there are tiny, amazing surprises hidden throughout!

Also, the site just passed 2,000 page views! So pumped! It's been an unbelievable journey so far and I sincerely am so grateful to everyone who has taken the time to check out this crazy little adventure I've embarked on!

Owl City & Carly Rae Jepson: Good Time (Khron Party Remix) (Terrible Pop Remix That You Won't Be Able To Get Out Of Your Head)

I'm not proud of this post, lets just get that out in the open. No self respecting person ever admitted (non-sarcastically at least) that they were madly in love with 'Call Me Maybe' by our girl Carly Rae, and now I'm ashamed to confess that once again I've been sucked into the whack wormhole of #CMMmadness, or I guess this time #GoodTimeinsanity. Don't judge, just listen to it through once, discreetly download it while looking worriedly over your shoulder, sneak it onto your iPod, perhaps under a fake name, and then flippin' blast it in your car everywhere you go alone! In time, you'll be able to play it ironically and everyone will sarcastically sing along but all be loving it deep down, believe me, exact same cycle occurred with 'Call Me Maybe'. I'm going to emerge from the Carly Rae Jepson closet and be straight with you all, I've listened to this at least once a day for the past week and a half...yes, the answer to your question is, "I am a sad excuse for a human being". I'm being way too harsh, it does take talent and an impressive musical sense to make something this catchy. So, really esteemed blog followers, I just had to get this out of my system and I promise to return to higher qual--lets go with different??--music tomorrow! And hey, lets not hate on all the nice things Khron did with the track, this is in actuality a pretty sweet remix!

Note that the download link is on the soundcloud page for the song.

If you want to see an eerily accurate depiction of what 'Call Me Maybe' madness was like, (and what 'Good Time' insanity is sure to be) watch this video, it's hilarious and dead-on!

The Honey Trees: Love & Loss

Please don't read this yet, just full screen the video and take 4:20 seconds out of your day to really listen, to really escape. Stop right now! You, yes you. I know you're continuing to read instead of finding some soulful soul-ace (like solace, get it?) in this truly gorgeous song. I myself often skip ahead through videos and feel as if I don't have time to give a full and honest listen to every song that someone posts on a website. Well I'm telling you right now, you really should spare your next four minutes, you'll be glad you did. I think the video, lyrics, and everything about the song says more than I can about this small, glorious wonder. Love and loss and hipsters and music and wow. Watch it!

Freelance Whales: Generator 1st Floor--Generator 2nd Floor (Magical Musical Experience)

The Freelance Whales have gone an unhealthy amount of time not being featured on this blog. It's time I remedied that. Every song I've ever heard by them is among my all time favorites. They're emotional, they're evocative, they're electric, they course and beat with an energy that I can't explain or pinpoint...They're just really good! If you are even slightly intrigued by what you hear here (haha), then please, without a seconds hesitation, go and buy Weathervanes, their debut album, which is a journey unlike any other. The album begins with 'Generator 1st Floor', and its penultimate song is 'Generator 2nd Floor', so after hearing these two, you simply must experience the meat of the album between these stunning bookends! iTunes describes their songs as "the weaving of the ol' plucky banjo with gurgling synths and an aural wash of harmonium [which] somehow all blend to make perfect sense". And oh, what perfect sense it is! Don't even rest on this one, just go get Weathervanes, it's life-changing!
'Generator 2nd Floor' is heartbreakingly sad, heartbreakingly beautiful, and heartbreakingly too short. Also the music video is slightly creepy...
Urggg. I promised myself I would only put up two of their songs, but after seeing the music video for 'Hannah' (one of my absolute favorites) it was physically, emotionally, and spiritually (maybe add cheesily?) impossible for me not to post it! This song is so cool! Who isn't "partial to the night sky" and "vaguely attracted to rooftops?"Gorgeous, breathtaking, GO GET IT!

The Jane Doze: Bullsh$%in On My Coffee Break (Perfect Hip-hop/Dub Mix!)

The Jane Doze are a fun loving group of producers, DJ's, and Mashup artists out of New York. I love their group name, I enjoy their music, and I agree with all the other music bloggers on sites like DML or Fresh New Tracks who want to marry them. This particular mashup pits Big Sean's track 'Bullsh%$in' with Zeds Dead 'Coffee Break'. The result is so natural and perfect as to hardly seem like a remix, which is a testament to The Jane Doze prime song choice and high quality production in their mashups. Shout-out to Ben Amann and Lauren O'Connor for reminding me of this should-be-classic!
Enjoy!

Another take on the track is provided here by rapper Omar LinX and Zeds Dead himself. Slightly more dubby flavor of the song, equally cool!

Imagine Dragons: On Top Of The World

Firstly: amazing name. Imagining dragons is an activity that I already did plenty of, and now that there's a soundtrack to go along with my past-time, all the better!
Secondly: These guys are incredible and have catapulted themselves into everyone's consciousness with the extremely catchy song 'It's Time', which I highly suggest you check out. I just got their full length album and it's stupendous, so if you enjoy this offering, go support them.
Thirdly, this particular song, 'On top of the world' is happy, upbeat, memorable, and all together a jolly good time, so jump on it! They look like they're having such a great time in the studio and on stage, it's simply infectious! Enjoy!

Johnny Astro: Goodnight America (Hip-Hop)

Beginning with a Langston Hughes sample, throwing in some Adele in the middle, and surrounding those snazzy samples with some rapping that I don't hate, (always a positive in my book!) Johnny Astro offers a very nice overall song. Enjoy!

If you go to the actual soundcloud page by clicking on the title there is an alternative download link if you're a fan!

The Strokes: Machu Picchu (Brit-Indie-Rock-Goodness!)

From the introductory ascending whoop, right into the ridiculously vibe-ing and groovy guitar in the background, this song stands out. It never for a second becomes predictable, but at the same time goes exactly where you want it to. Ahhh, I had to double, triple, and then quadruple check that I hadn't posted this song yet, because it is soo good. Certainly up there in my favorites list. Chock full of the 'cool and different' sounds I love, while still rocking, and best of all, bringing it all down at the perfect moments, this song is gold. I really want to go to Machu Picchu at some point in my life (wink wink nudge nudge to any listeners with lots of money just lying around not being put to good use) but even that epic historical site is in for stiff competition for my fancy when compared with this. Enjoy, check out more Strokes, and heavens help me, find a way to make me go to bed earlier!

Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero feat. Matthew Koma: Sparks (Vicetone Remix) (EDM)

Fedde Le Grand, Nicky Romero, and Matthew Koma need little introduction, each being know for their respective house and progressive tracks, or for their fantastic vocal contributions. The original of this song was already massive and extremely hard to not jump around uncontrollably to, but after Vicetone got a hold of it...bonkers. Just bonkers. The uplifting synths and the lyric insisting that it is indeed, "The time to turn off your mind" make for a track you can get lost in. Enjoy, and as always, dance wildly in front of your computer screen responsibly. Enjoy!

Also, the promo video for the original really gets me going as well and makes Ultra Music Festival look more euphoric than a really good curry...and probably hotter too.

The Paper Kites: Bloom

If your ears, worries, and heart don't melt within the first minute of this song, you should probably report back to your Cyborg brethren in the Delta Quadrant amidst the Caelier city of Mantilis. On the other hand, if you feel a soothing, musical warmth from the tips of your toes to the top of your head that is completely unrelated to that Star Trek reference above, then you now know about the magnificent Paper Kites. I did six hours of straight homework in the library today, and without The Paper Kites and their luscious, harmonic, unbelievable sound, I don't think I would have held it together. Enough talk, go let your musical horizons bloom outwards!
Bazinga! I had not seen the music video before right now! It's soo...pure. That's the only word I can use to describe The Paper Kites. They just have a very delicate and pure quality which I can't get enough of. Enjoy!

Atlas Genius: Trojans (Xaphoon Jones Remix) (Non-annoying Trap!)

Xaphoon Jones is quite the producer. With, well, almost everything under his belt, from Ellie Goulding to being half of Chiddy Bang (which really is far from his best work, they're not my favorite), he does it all. This remix eased me into trap music--which if you don't know is a 'new' (haha, yah right) genre which, well, I'll let you research it, most of it is just people yelling "hey" in the background of a super sliced track--and is pretty cool in my opinion. Anyway, I'm really not explaining trap music well, so just enjoy this song for what it is, a good remix with some sounds you can't help but dig.
Starting off slow, it picks up at around 40 seconds, and then really lets loose around the 1:15 point. Never anything too crazy, just too cool. Enjoy!

If you want to delve into the trap world a bit more, whether out of sheer foolishness or dumb curiosity, Flosstradamus is one of the big names in it. The actual first trap song I heard is 'Total Recall' which 90% of it I think is super cool, and the other 10% I can't stand. See what you think!

Gypsy And The Cat: Parallel Universe

This is a beautiful piece of music. With lyrics like, "The voyage of time captured our hearts and set us freeeee!" all floating amidst gorgeous echoes, bleeps and piano, it's hard to resist the allure of Gypsy And The Cats 'Parallel Universe'. Soak up every second of this 4:24 sonorous symphony.

Cherub: Doses and Mimosas (Laid Back Hip-Hop)

I've been deliberating posting this song for the last week. Every time I title a post with it and get ready to write, I've hesitated and found something else to put up. Well I'm finally going for it. My hesitation was spawned of the chorus, whose lyrics are not exactly my musical forte and aren't the classiest words ever sung. I've finally reached the conclusion however that the whole vibe and simply awesome sounds throughout the whole song outweighed the chorus's lack of appeal. Not even sure if this song is Hip-Hop, because there is nearly zero rapping, it just does really cool things and is a great homework song (as evidenced by the 28 plays on my iTunes since I got it last week). This one might not be for everyone, but if you do take a liking to it, I promise that you're realllllly going to like it! Enjoy!

Stephen Swartz: Bullet Train (Cool Chillstep With Female Vocals)

This song luckily doesn't quite hit you like a bullet train. Such a pretty, tranquil beginning, then some nice building, noticeable but not unpleasant drops, and (I think) really great female vocals throughout the entire song. Every twenty seventh bass wobble I feel like they border on a little much, but that vocal keeps on bringing me back. And when this track goes quiet at 2:57 and then comes back in again...you don't feel too guilty listening to something that is fairly dub-steppy. That darn Stephen makes the genre hard to resist!

If you like what you hear up above, feel free to also check Stephen's song 'Survivor'. Still great female vocals, a little too dubby for me, but there are still moments of magic within...

Unrelated note...thoughts on the iPhone 5?

Good Old War: That's Some Dream

Mmmmm. Happy panda face. 'That's Some Dream' makes you feel sad, happy, and then perfectly content, all in the span of a few seconds. Catchy, great lyrics, and overall a great "life goes on" song, snatch up this Good Old War classic!

Rasmus Faber & Syke'n'Sugarstarr: We Go Oh (Indie EDM?)

I can't believe I just missed a day. Here it is, 12:07, and I realize, "Heavens to Mergatroite! I've neglected to share any music with the world!" Well nevermore, I may have shirked my duty for one day, but I won't let it become two.
What can I say about Rasmus Faber & Syke'n'Sugarstarr? Well not much. Just getting that entire name out in one mouthful is a struggle. One thing I can tell you about him (them? her?) is that they know how to make a gorgeous song. Somehow masterfully blending the classic 'hipsters being vintage and ethereal in a forest' and a swelling progressive house, Avicci-esque beat, this song gets me going! It's like if Alesso and Edward Sharp and the Magnetic Zeroes got freaky with each other and made some sound babies. Basic lyrics that remain soul stirring, and a music video to match. Please, please, full screen this video and watch it with some degree of attention (as much attention as any teenager in this day and age is capable of). I'll admit, it took four listens of this song for me to even notice I'd heard a song. I was doing so many different things and was so unfocused that I had no idea it was over (and it kind of floats right by your consciousness with its well blended magnificence never becoming jarring or intrusive). Really though, the video is great, makes me want to do exactly what they do, and never come back. So good. Enjoy!
Sidenote: If you haven't checked out that Noosa 'Walk On By' remix (which you can find down below) yet, you need to do that now. I've had that on repeat the last few days.

Stateless: Bloodstream

It's a Sunday, I've had a sundae, and it's a sunny day. On a totally unrelated note, here's some extremely soothing and lilting sounds to ease you into another week. This song--like its title--will worm its way under your skin and into your bloodstream, there to stay firmly rooted as a relaxing favorite. I'm a big fan of all the sounds coalescing in the background, so if you have good over ear headphones, give it a listen! Enjoy!

Timeflies: Wild Ones

Long day at the beach, so I apologize for the lateness of todays post. I'm also off to Jungle Jam, one of the largest all school parties of the year, so forgive me for the brevity of this one. With the word 'wild' on my mind, and after having been forced to endure lots of pop hits blasting each day over the speakers of the cafeteria at all hours of the day (doesn't it seem as if breakfast isn't exactly the time for pumpin' beats?), here's a nice chilled out and more crooning cover of Pitbull and Sia's 'Wild Ones'. Enjoy!

The Knocks ft. Mandy Lee: Midnight City (M83 Cover)

We've all heard M83's iconic, distorted screaming that worms its way into your psyche, into your very being, wraps itself around the part of your brain that puts tunes and lyrics on an infinite loop in your mind, hijacks common sense and public etiquette, and proceeds to cause ceaseless "woo, wa woo, woo wha's". No? I'm the only one who does an awkward scream/hiccup rendition of it? Hmmm. If you haven't heard it, here you are good sir or madam, enjoy...I totally did not remember the beautiful horns at the end, those are sweet.
I would maybe hurry up on getting this song, because M83 is dreaming.

Now what I want to tell you about is The Knocks remix of 'Midnight City'. Unlike everyone and their uncles' dubstep, trance, jumpstyle, hardstyle, trap, techno, or acoustic remix of Midnight City, this is a completely new song. Mandy Lee on lyrics, an altered (and now much happier and less creepy sounding) background "woo, wa woo, woo wha", which is now more like, "ba bum du daa, ba bumm du dada, and basically a fantastic reworking of an already fantastic song. While recognizable as M83's brainchild, I give major props to The Knocks for taking it completely in their own direction. Check it out, play it at midnight in a city, make a scooter gang, eat bacon, do something adventurous, order burritos at Chipotle, but most of all, enjoy a FREE DOWNLOAD (what!? So nice of them!) of this.

Noosa: Walk On By (Sound Remedy Remix) (Chillstep)

Dammmmmn! As all my newfound SoCal peeps like to say, this song is hella good. And you know that I would only throw that word around if my brains had just melted away from pure sound magic, so this track is hot! Never heard of Noosa, but I will certainly be checking out some more of her stuff if its all this mind-blowing. Sound Remedy on the other hand is a favorite go-to, a group whom make remixes that you actually fall in love with, and crave like ice cream or iTunes gift cards. I really have no idea how they make every song of theirs so mellifluously melodic, and yet so thunderingly thumping. This song is impeccable, keeping your attention for its entire over seven minute span. Every extra second that Sound Remedy ekes out is undeniably gorgeous, and you'll be putting this gem on repeat in no time.
Don't even think of 'Walking On By' this stupendous track, it's one for the books. Download this, run to this, sit to this, jam to this, eat to this, live to this.

Note: If you go directly to the soundcloud page (which you can do by clicking where it says "Noosa-Walk On By (Sound Remedy Remix) there is a direct download there, or you can like Sound Remedy on Facebook (which would be super cool, supporting them) and get it there. Enjoy either way!!!!!

The Lumineers: Ho Hey

Actually introduced to these guys just a few days ago, they've grown on me like the mold that springs into being inside a coffee cup filled with old, caked hot chocolate and orange juice, which incidentally I have in my dorm room...but that's a story for another day, most likely the day they find me dead in my room with my Decemberists mug cracked on the floor next to me. Wow. Tangent much Miles? Anyway, the Lumineers are prettttty snazzy from what I've heard so far, and were only $5.00 on Amazon this week, so I figured, "Why not?" Nice and simple, nice and short, and all around nice, 'Ho Hey' is a happy little sing-along ditty that is perfect for middle of the week doldrums. Enjoy!

Two Door Cinema Club: Beacon (The Album)

If you're one of the sick and twisted people who didn't stay up until midnight to get this album the second it was released...I won't even say what I think of your sort, the blogosphere isn't ready for that level of profanity. I jest, I jest, I wasn't actually even able to listen all the way through the album until a run this afternoon because today happened to be the first day of classes. What demented school official schedules the first day of class on the same day as the release of Two Door Cinema Club's sophomore album? A cruel one, that's for sure. The forty-two minute collection of throbbing and beautiful perfection passes by in the blink of an eye. It's a pretty great blink though. I still need to give it some time to sink into my bones, simmer, and marinate until it's my favorite thing since Tourist History (their last album), but my preliminary impression of it is that it is still distinctly Two Door Cinema Club's signature sound, but that the entire album is not as single-minded in its pulsing beats, and explores more variation and vocal emphasis rather than...don't know how else to describe it...the head shaking, boom, boom, boom of their past work. I'm really enjoying it so far, and am already excited for what's ahead!
My favorite two tracks thus far are the opening and closing numbers, 'Next Year' and 'Remember My Name'.
'Next Year', shining like a beacon that will guide you into the musical escapade that awaits is awesome.  Just listen to it, and you'll fall in love.
'Remember My Name', both one of my favorites for its musical qualities and for its titles relevance here in the first few weeks of college, is great as well. Every song on the album is fantastic, and I highly suggest going and getting it ASAP! For some reason, Blogger won't find the video for this on youtube, so below is the link to the song...on youtube. :/ Enjoy, and go support Two Door Cinema Club!

Ghost Beach: Miracle (Viceroy Remix)

I believe that a big thank you is in order! According to the creepy blog tracker that tells me how many people view the blog every day, where they're from, what they're wearing, their credit card information, ect. I just passed 1,000 page views and am at 1,010! Thanks so much everyone, it means a lot that someone somewhere is listening along with me! It's incredibly cool that people from South Korea, Finland, Egypt, Anguilla, Ireland, The United Kingdom, Germany, The Cayman Islands, and an obscene amount from Russia are following or have at least glimpsed the blog. Thanks again and I hope I keep putting up things that people enjoy.
In celebration of the 'Miracle' of that much support, here's Viceroy's remix of Ghost Beach's track. Viceroy--if you have yet to check him out--puts out some of the most summery songs I've heard, and each one has the perfect vibe going for a sunny day (or to remind and keep you going until the next one). Enjoy!
http://soundcloud.com/viceroymusic/ghost-beach-miracle-viceroy
P.S. There is a free download of the song at the link, you just have to like Viceroy on facebook I believe, or something easy like that.

Kill Paris: I Do Love You (EDM)

It's a Sunday morning, I just woke up, and everyone could use something that is slow enough to not be jarring, bumping enough to remind them of last night, and full of nice, distorted female vocals. I've got just the thing.

Zeds Dead & Omar Linx: You and I (Hip-hop)

This is some pretty different stuff for me, certainly not what I listen to on a day to day basis. When I do listen to this stuff though, I get way into it and find tons of different artists and songs that are similar and just go wild. This song is ultra laid back, with a very nice beat and progression courtesy of Zeds Dead, and a soft half-spoken, half-sung female chorus. Omar Linx then jumps on the track and for some reason or another his 'sick flow' (can't believe I just said that) works for me, unlike so many rappers. He curses a bit and most likely says something offensive to one group or another (I don't get most of the references in 90% of hip-hop or rap) so I apologize in advance, but it seems pretty supportive and positive to me. Anyway, really chill song, cool background sounds, catchy female vocals, and a rapper I can hang with (wow, did I really just say that too? What's happening to me?) All in all a solid track! Download below and have a stupendous saturday!
