The XX: You Got The Love (Florence and the Machine Cover)

Yes, I could have done a sweet Florence and the Machine post as my 101st entry, or alternatively, shared with all of you the wonder of an XX track, but doesn't that sound a little too conforming, a little too constraining, lacking that extra bit of pizazz that a 101st post deserves? I thought so too.
Instead, here is an absolutely incredible cover of Florence Welch and her many machines by none other than then the beyond comparison XX! This remix is so freaking cool! Masterfully warping an already classic song, The XX bring this song to whole new levels of awesome! Just when you're getting all tranced out and kind of wanting them to pick the track up a bit, along rolls 2:11, where some of the coolest vocal distortions I've ever heard take Florence Welch's voice to a place I can't even describe, just listen! Thennnnnn, at the four minute mark you might as well quit your job, drop out of school and just listen to that vocal for the rest of your life. Zoinks Shaggy, it's life-changing. Stop reading, start listening!
If this is the first you've heard of either of these bands, firstly check for a pulse, and secondly check them out! Both make some great music, and together, even better!
And just because it's a sweet picture:

Guster: Ruby Falls (100th Post!)

What an incredible journey this has been so far.
Over the course of these 100 posts:
-You wonderful people have visited the page over 3,500 times
-Listeners have been from the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Cayman Islands, the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Australia, Italy, Mexico, China, Argentina, Indonesia, and many other nations!
-Somehow there have only been 16 published comments...you people must be much better at keeping in what you have to say than I am.
And most importantly, I've had an absolute blast and (I hope) have been giving you music you want to absolutely blast!

Speaking of incredible journeys, Guster's 'Ruby Falls' is quite the journey, and I think appropriate for the roller-coaster-esque and wonderful experience the blog has been so far.
This 7:07 (already auspicious!) masterpiece is gorgeous. Starting off very tranquil, it lulls you onto the path to Ruby Falls. At 53 seconds it begins to pick up, but still in a laid back and soothing way, yet you feel yourself starting to groove. 2:20 sees it crescendo into massive guitar riffs and cool noises and Guster continues to croon at you. Suddenly at 4:14 you are carried to a magical place that I think literally stirred my heart around in my chest as if with one big beautiful spatula.
I live for the second half of this song. My god. At 5:48 a saxophone joins the otherworldly euphoria and brings the song to one of the most satisfying finales I've ever heard. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE listen to this song all the way through, because the last few minutes are incredible but lose all their potency without the rest of the song! Enjoy enjoy enjoy and keep coming back!

Adele: Skyfall (Clark Kent & Oscar Daniel Remix)

You know why they call it Ultimate Frisbee? Because if you go a certain Halloween Huckfest and play nonstop back-to-back games all weekend than you are so ultimately tired and drained that you can't even rouse yourself to write about awesome music. I am ashamed and embarrassed that I went an entire weekend without providing you lovely people with any tuneage, but never fear, I've returned (at least until the next time I'm physically unable to walk or think straight from pure exhaustion).
If you're as excited about the new Bond film 'Skyfall' as I am, then you've probably heard that Adele did the theme-song! The song screams Bond, and Adele is perfect for the part. This dubstep-y remix of the song has been dominating my iTunes at the same rate that 'Skyfall' is dominating the foreign box office, and brings that last sweet something to the song. The build in the background that begins at the 26 second mark is addicting! It does get a little too dubby for my tastes at some points, but overall I love the places that Clark Kent & Oscar Daniel take this remix! Enjoy!

Two Door Cinema Club: Sleep Alone

Yes I'm posting Two Door Cinema Club again, but for good reason! I just got back from one of their concerts, and never before has my mind been so thoroughly blown! To say the least, it was incredible, and loud and there were lights everywhere and I should really get to bed...
Anyway, Sleep Alone was incredible live, and has an equally incredible music video!
Here's the slightest taste of the unparalleled intensity and pure euphoria and exuberance of the concert!
Well actually Blogger is being stupid and not letting me upload any videos, so here's a link to the video on facebook...perhaps that will work?
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=4831011338327&set=vb.1387942948&type=2&theater
It was so much fun, I highly suggest catching them live! Enjoy!

Mansions On The Moon: Radio

It's rare that a song that is criticizing pop songs' generic formulas has such a...well, a catchy and poppy sound! Opening with the lines, "Because you heard it on the radio, doesn't make it beautiful. Where did all the music go? I think it's locked in a box in my heart, in my soul," Mansions on the Moon have a bold statement on their hands. They follow through with it though, and do in fact make something beautiful. I don't know a ton about these guys, but I really like their name, they've got some killer harmonies, nice lyrics, and if this song is anything to go off of, we'll be hearing more from them in the future...maybe even on the radio!
I love the echo-y chant they do at the 36 second mark, and at other lovely times during the track, it's joyful! Enjoy the very kindly proffered free download from Mansions on the Moon!

El Ten Eleven: My Only Swerving (Chilllllllllll...zzzz)

Nothing like finishing your homework, looking up to see it's precisely 2:22:22, fist pumping in a nearly empty library, knocking your oreo smoothie onto the floor, looking about sheepishly, cleaning it up, and then sitting down to calm yourself with some 'My Only Swerving'. This stuff will lower your heart-rate, but somehow still get you pumped on life. It floats, it tings, it bings and it reverbs. Overall, it rocks. I find it impressive that a song in excess of five minutes with no words and very little actual changes manages to remain engaging...but it does! Enjoy!

I have a snazzy remix of it, that I literally can't find anywhere on the interwebs so I guess all of you will just have to suffer knowing that you're missing out on some more cool sounds amidst these already cool sounds...Sorry!

Passion Pit: Take A Walk (The M Machine Remix)

This song makes me want to...run? No, that's not it...don't worry, it'll come to me. While I think of that, you should really think of blasting this song. It's got some awesome Passion Pit elements, and a great amount of changes that The M Machine threw in. The first 37 seconds are pure magic, and it only gets better from there! Enjoy!

I remembered! This song makes me want to walk! And speaking of walking, or running, or jumping, or doing whatever joyfully:
Thanks so much for all following this crazy blog and making me feel like some other bozo's out there enjoy the same music! The blog reached 3,000 views yesterday, and is already 5 away from 3,100! All those good, pitying friends who refresh the page all day just to make me feel good...I tip my hat to you! Let's keep up the awesome journey! Tell your friends, like the facebook page, write a song about it, (eh, eh!!) send me cool stuff to post, ect! It's been and continues to be a blast!

Fleet Foxes: Blue Ridge Mountains

Let's just take a second to admire Robin Pecknold in all his ferocious bearded glory...Ah, that was nice wasn't it? Now on to the song.
What business do a group of bearded mountain men have in your ear? A great deal of business it turns out. These men are bearded brilliants, full fledged folk aficionados, rugged rapturous ragamuffins, they are the...fleetest of foxes if you will. Their voices, simple orchestration, unbelievable harmonies and overall vive is incredible. If you don't own their albums, make that a top priority. Blue Ridge Mountains is one of my all time favorite songs, and just has such an amazing progression of sound, emotion, and storyline over its course. Prepare to be taken for a journey!

Dada Life: So Young So High (EDM)

This vocal warps my mind. Just by itself it's an incredible build, but once you throw in Dada Life's signature big room masssssssssivensss, it's a sound to reckoned with! Definitely my favorite new track on their brand new album The Rules of Dada. Enjoy and blast this regularly!

Dillon Francis: IDGAFOS (D.veloped Extended Edit)

I don't even know what genre to call this. There's some electro, some hip-hop, some samples from The Matrix...iTunes calls it 'Power Ballad', whatever that is. I think I would go with 'Ridiculously Different and Awesome' if I had to choose. From start to finish, from crazy beeps and boops to...whatever else happens in the background of this insanity, this songs a keeper. And heavens to Betsy Mergatroite! The first 35 seconds are pure gold! Enjoy and grab a download from the link by liking D.veloped's facebook page!

Boy: Little Numbers (Joyous!)

This song has 'le perfect recipe'. Wonderful female vocals, repeated use of the number seven, a catchy chorus, and a video of beautiful people walking about being joyful! Everyone should really watch the whole video, there are tons of little heart-lifting moments (like them playing a chalk piano!). I can't get enough of their exuberant clapping and their smiles! Enjoy!

Frank Ocean: Strawberry Swing (Super Cool Coldplay Cover)

Frank Ocean matches and maybe, just maybe, exceeds Coldplay with this cover. It's beautiful, tranquil, and then is nice enough to stir you from your reverie with an alarm clock noise at the end so that you get up and don't sit there on your butt all day with a dopey smile gazing into the distance.
Enjoy!

Emancipator: Anthem (Chiller Than Ice)

There is no better homework music. Period. Emancipator will zone you out, get you focused, and still entertain your ears like no other. It's the perfect sound concoction! Beautiful, not without a beat, and varying just enough to be awesome and yet not disturb your 'zone'. Emancipator takes the cake and is HEAVILY featured in my Floatstep playlist which has been on solid repeat the last few days while I've been studying away. These aren't the type of songs your going to be engrossed in if you skip through them and halfheartedly check them out while doing other stuff. Believe me, just go get all of Emancipator's stuff, start your homework, and next thing you know, you'll be done.
Anthem is gorgeous and my favorite part that I can't get enough at starts at 3:00. The whole thing is lovely though, so don't skip a second!

If you're into 'Anthem', check out 'Father King', it's a beauty! After the 52 second mark, my oh my, what a song!

The Kooks: Is It Me

There's not a ton to say about this one. It's lovely. It's simple. It's a necessary addition to your life. Enjoy!
Goodness! The ending is chillingly delectable.

Grant Smillie & Walden ft. Zoe Badwi: A Million Lights (EDM)

Be a trooper and persevere through the tedium of the dull intro that drags on until 1:01, because your hard work shall be repaid for the rest of the song. Just in time to fuel your...sunday homework?...this song will light up your ears up with a million synths. Enjoy!

Crayon Fields: All The Pleasures Of The World (Opulent Sound Remix)

Opulent Sound Remix. This already sounds good! Some of the funkiest, craziest sounds I've ever heard in my life occur in this song. The funky-fresh breakdown has this killer sound that I can only describe as akin to a disco toad gargling rainbows. The intro is fantastic, from 2:04 on is mind boggling, and the echo-y goodness from 3:07 until the end is enchanting. Enjoy!

Broke For Free: The Gold Lining (Chill)

Sucked in by the first seconds, enthralled until the last. Simple in a trance like way, enjoyable in an unexplainable way, this has been on repeat all day while studying. Enjoy!

Ellie Goulding: Figure 8 (Flipping Ellie Goulding You Fools, What Are You Waiting For?)

Ellie Goulding's new album came out this week as well, and as blown away as I was by The Heist and Macklemore's amazing effort, I was equally amazed (but in a more tranquil, floating, effervescent voice,  amazing tunes, sweet distortion sort of way) by Halcyon, the sophomore album of the ridiculously cool Ellie Goulding.
This song starts with great vocal distortions that steadily build into her gorgeous voice and some lovely lyrics. Gradually a wibbity-wop-wop builds in the background, and then at the minute mark the lovely-- somehow both pounding and beautiful--chorus drops in. Thirty seconds later, it lovingly transitions back into her softness, then right away builds again into the chorus (which I just can't get enough of!). At 2:40 it gets all beautiful again for just long enough, then builds to its most dramatic and takes you on the roller-coaster ride of a chorus ONE MORE TIME! The little swirling synths behind her haunting voice at the end drive it home for me: Ellie Goulding is a goddess. Please, please put this on loud, proud, and once again, loud. Enjoy!

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis: Ten Thousand Hours (Hip-Hop)

Third Macklemore post...I'm well aware. He deserves it though! The Heist was released today, and my goodness what a release it was! Reaching the top of the iTunes charts (as an independent artist!!!!) and staying there over the course of the day has been epic. All over campus I've heard people playing it, or discussing it, and it's sweet to see people coming together over music.
If you haven't already, go out and support Macklemore & Ryan Lewis! I've already listened to the album three times through, during which 'Thrift Shop' has grown on me immensely, 'Same Love' continues to make me teary eyed, and every other song makes me think, or dance, or both! 'Ten Thousand Hours' is one of my favorites so far and I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well.
Also, if you've been living under a bigoted rock and haven't seen the music video for 'Same Love' yet, you need to experience it in all its tear jerking, seven minute splendor!
For now I promise I'll lay off the Macklemore...until his next release.

Modulation ft. Major Lazer: Groovy Movie (Vico Ono Trap Remix)

Sheer crazyness. So many wild, wacky, unexpected sounds. If this WERE turned into a movie, it would be a damn groovy one!

Morning Parade: Under the Stars

I missed another day. My only excuse is lack of sleep, lack of a computer, and a definite lack of time. There was however, no lack of a mind-boggling, body-shaking, brain-melting, Wombats concert!
One of the openers--not the extremely emo and emotionally disturbed band 'Beware of Darkness'--Morning Parade was fantastic and warranted some further research. Further research churned up that they were in fact awesome, as I suspected, and here they are!
A gorgeous build up that culminates in euphoria at 1:14! So cool! Enjoy!
If your eager for more, here's 'Headlights' another fine offering by these rocking british boys.
If you are supremely bored, and have 15 seconds to spare (but really, who does these days?) here's the tiniest snippet of the eargasmic time I had last night.

Death Cab For Cutie: Stay Young Go Dancing

Mmmm. Insert contended 'happy brontosaurus' face here. It is the rare, wonderful, sparkling gem of a song that makes you want to follow the lyrics and title TO THE LETTER. This, esteemed blog followers (I was going to put readers, but let's be honest, who reads this codswallop anyway?) is indeed one of those songs. This stands as a poignant, masterfully emotional music video which implores you to never grow up, never grow boring, and to live a life full of love (and dancing!). I for one, am in.

Lana Del Rey: Diet Mountain Dew (Tommy Noble Remix) (EDM)

This has a great intro, some annoying dubstep, a great piano part, some lovely Lana Del Rey vocals, more annoying dubstep, and then it's over. The intro is awesome, from the start until 1:20 I could listen forever, then it loses some of its greatness, but all together still a fairly cool song! And you can't go wrong with Lana Del Rey right? Well perhaps on SNL...
Enjoy!

Aloe Blacc: I Need A Dollar (Big Gigantic Remix) (Laid Back Dubstep with Horns!)

Big Gigantic should be just that. Big, and gigantically popular. This song is nice, relaxing, still has some bump to it, and overall would totally convince me to give Big Gigantic a dollar! Enjoy! Luckily for all you cheap folks, they're not even asking for a dollar for this song, so pick up a free download below!

Darwin Deez: Radar Detector

You thought you'd seen it all? You presumed that no hair style could make you laugh? You were convinced that the iPhone 5's new landscape photography feature was the only way to get panoramic views? Well I don't consider myself to be the bubble busting type, but someone had to do it.
I personally love this song, love Darwin Deez, and wish more people were as unabashedly weird. I also know plenty of people who find him downright annoying. Whichever side of the fence you're on, you can't argue the fact that this music video is absolutely brilliant! Beloved blog followers, I cordially invite you to the wildest, most original, and most outrageously amazing music video in existence! Enjoy!
Haha, the screenshot of the music video cracks me up.

If (and only if) you diligently full screened and were fully immersed in the madness of 'Radar Detector', then here is a more poignant and beautiful offering by Mr. Deez. This song and video make me so happy (maybe avoid the ending if you want to stay happy though...). Check it out!

Detektivbyrån: Karlekens Alla Farjor (Bells and Happiness!)

For all those Swedish folk, glockenspiel, traktofon, toy piano, Theremin, drum box, and small bell enthusiasts out there, your day has finally come! I may be writing this to a niche audience, but if you take the time to listen, you too may join the regal ranks of Detektivbyrån fans! I absolutely promise you that I would butcher an attempt to describe the sounds these guys make, so I'm going to let your ears decode them on your own, enjoy!
This first one, 'Kärlekens Alla Färjor' (don't even ask, I have no idea how to say it or what it is) really breaks wide open at the one minute mark, and does some crazy things that I'm a big fan of!
This next one, with the surprisingly comprehensible title Life/Universe, has an addictive opening that sounds like something Daft Punk would do for a new Tron movie. It then brings in their signature bells, and overall is pretty snazzy, it's actually growing into a big favorite of mine just over the few times I've listened through it while writing this post. It gets super intense and almost EDM-y and drop-y at 1:15, and has this overall spooky vibe intermixed with the nice happy bells. Good stuff if you ask me!

Finally, and perhaps most impressive, is seeing how they actually create all this Swedish madness! Like frenetic magicians, they somehow mix all their many conflicting ingredients together into a concoction unlike any other. Just watch, and be sure to stay until the end, the second half is equally awesome!
